Smoke alarm alerts neighbor of Aina Haina house fire

The Honolulu Fire Department said a neighbor heard a smoke alarm, saw smoke and reported a fire at a woman’s Aina Haina house this morning.

The woman who lived at the split-level single-family house at 5329 Keikilani Circle was not home at the time.

The firefighters responded to the 8:08 a.m. alarm with 22 personnel. The first unit on scene at 8:14 a.m. saw smoke coming from the right rear corner of the structure, HFD said in an email.

The fire was brought under control at 8:21 a.m. and was extinguished at 8:23 a.m.

The fire caused an estimated $21,500 in damage to the structure and $500 to its contents, HFD said.

The house had working smoke alarms, but did not have fire sprinklers.
