SandBows sweep Cal State Northridge

Top-seeded Hawaii opened up the defense of its Big West tournament title today with a 5-0 sweep of Cal State Northridge at Zuma Beach, Calif.

The fifth-ranked Rainbow Wahine (25-7) dropped only one set against the Matadors (15-10), that coming at Flight 3 when Morgan Martin and Pani Napoleon rallied past Taylor Brydon and Lauren McMurray, 19-21, 21-10, 15-6. CSUN had won its seventh straight earlier today when shutting out UC Davis 5-0.

Hawaii, winning its last seven duals, moves into Saturday’s semifinal (4 a.m. Hawaii time) against No. 8 Cal Poly (23-10). The second-seeded Mustangs swept No. 12 Long Beach State and Sacramento State 5-0 to advance.

Cal Poly edged Hawaii 3-2 at the Big West Challenge on March 31. The SandBows have won all three of the previous Big West tournaments.
