Conditions around the state today should be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms for some areas.

Earlier flood advisories for Kauai and Molokai have been canceled. However, an upper-level cyclone and a long area of low pressure passing over the islands will bring isolated thunderstorms and locally heavy rain today, according to the National Weather Service.

High temperatures from 85 to 90 degrees are expected today from Maui to Kauai and from 83 to 88 degrees for Hawaii island, weather officials said. Tradewinds should continue to blow up to 15 mph.

Forecasters said drier, more typical tradewind weather is expected to return heading into the weekend thanks to a surface ridge north of the islands. Light to moderate trades are expected to continue through the weekend, with highs up to 89 degrees for Honolulu on Sunday.

An uptick in trades is possible early next week, thanks to a new high building north of the isles.

Surf is expected to remain below advisory levels along all shores through the middle of next week. Swells from the southern hemisphere will produce small surf along south facing shores through tonight, with a slightly bigger swell from the Tasman Sea possible, starting Friday.

A small craft advisory, meanwhile, is in effect for the Alenuihaha Channel until 6 p.m. today.
