A wind advisory has been dropped for Oahu and Kauai, but extended for portions of Maui and Hawaii counties.

The advisory is now scheduled to expire for those counties at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service said east winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected with gusts up to 50 mph. Winds will be strongest over the west of the terrain.

The advisory includes Kalaupapa, Kaunakakai, Manele, Lanai City, Wailuku, Lahaina, Kaanapali, Kahului, Haiku, Makawao, Hana, Kihei, Makena, Pukalani, Kula, South Point, Pahala, Hilo, Volcano, Honokaa, Kamuela, and Waikoloa.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution.

Power has been restored to parts of Haiku, according to a Maui Electric spokeswoman.

Power restoration work continues for Kula, Olinda and pockets of Haiku, Kahului and Wailuki.

8:30 a.m.

Maui Electric crews have been busy restoring power to various parts of the island after wind-related outages.

Customers in Kahului, Wailuku, Makawao, Kula, Olinda, Haiku and Sprecklesville had lost power overnight, resulting from downed power lines and damaged electrical equipment, according to a utility spokeswoman.

As of 8 a.m., only parts of Kula, Olinda, Haiku, and pockets of Kahului and Waiuku remained without power.

Large portions of all Hawaiian islands are under a wind advisory today with gusts expected to reach 50 mph, the National Weather Service said.

The advisory is effective through 6 p.m. today and calls for east winds from 20 to 30 mph and stronger gusts, forecasters said.

“Winds this strong are capable of downing trees and causing power outages. Motorists, especially those in high profile vehicles, are urged to drive with extreme caution,” the advisory says.

The advisory includes: all of Niihau; Lihue, Princeville, Poipu, Waimea, Hanapepe, Kokee State Park on Kauai; Honolulu, Waikiki, Hawaii Kai, Kapolei, Nanakuli, Makaha, Haleiwa, Waialua, Kahuku, Punaluu, Laie, Kailua, Kaneohe, Waimanalo, Mililani, Wahiawa, Pearl City, and Makakilo on Oahu; Kalaupapa and Kaunakakai, Molokai; Manele and Lanai City on Lanai; Wailuku, Lahaina, Kaanapali, Kahului, Haiku, Makawao, Hana, Kihei, Makena, Pukalani and Kula, Maui; and South Point, Pahala, Hilo, Volcano, Honokaa, Kamuela and Waikoloa on Hawaii island.

Motorists, especially those in high-profile vehicles, are urged to drive with extreme caution.

The forecast calls for windy and showery weather through Saturday. Showers will be most prevalent over windward and mauka areas, but may also reach into leeward areas, the weather service said.
