Five Honolulu mayoral candidates discussed issues critical to Waikiki during a Zoom conference call Wednesday evening hosted by the Waikiki Neighborhood Board and the Waikiki Improvement Association.

Honolulu Star-Advertiser Waikiki Bureau Chief Allison Schaefers joined Hawaii Public Radio’s Catherine Cruz and KHON2’s Gina Mangieri to moderate the panel featuring Keith Amemiya, Rick Blangiardi, Colleen Hanabusa, Mufi Hannemann and Kym Pine who are running for Honolulu mayor.

There are 15 candidates vying to replace Mayor Kirk Caldwell, who is finishing his second consecutive term at the end of this year and is barred by the Honolulu City Charter from running for the same office a third straight time.

Primary election day is Aug. 8. Registered voters are expected to receive their ballots in the mail by July 21 or shortly thereafter.
