IMO, Hawaii’s economy is fine and dandy. Gotta get the money to do this NOW! before the economy turns sour.
If possible, they should hold off any new construction for a few years. Construction is booming today with labor shortages and higher labor costs.
Given, the overall “old school boys” government and the “old school boys” contractors, I am surprised that anything was accomplished.
After all, the longer you drag out a project, the more money you can make.
Reminds me of my youth growing up back in the early 30’s, county road maintenance crew, 2 workers leaning on their shovels and a foreman watching the 2 workers doing little or anything. The overheated classroom problem has been negotiated back and forth at your children’s inconvenience while the legislators in their air conditioned assembly procrastinate. Shameful!
Governor Ige confirms my belief that he is inept and a simpleton unfit for the high government position he holds.
Turn off his A/C until ALL classrooms get theirs.
I was always amazed that it took me nearly six years to build a two-storey classroom building with a total footprint of ten classrooms when a private company like Walmart could construct an entire immense complex in about 18 months.
It’s not a very appealing idea for the legislature to grapple with. It doesn’t get them a lot of votes from their constituencies but something that they must address is the structure of the procurement process for State projects. It’s currently Byzantine in every sense of the word.
He’s still got a few more months until summer.

Didn’t Ige say that all classrooms would be cool by January? I figured he was planning on winter weather to cool the rooms and knew that he would never install all those units till … ?? January 2020 ??
Dont blame this slow down on electrical upgrades. That should have been factored in from the beginning.
As we have seen for decades, professional, advanced planning doesn’t happen in the Nei. No one really knows their jobs, basically coasting to retirement. One debacle after another after another.
Nei is barely 10th world at best.
The professionals do know their job and by extending the time factor they get employment longevity.
Is the A/C issue really a crisis? How did we ever survive the last hundred years without A/C? To me, it’s a “nice-to-have” that should be installed when we can get the best deal for the taxpayer. Only saying that because we didn’t have A/C when I was growing up….somehow we survived….and thrived….just sayin’.
It is odd that classroom a/c has become a big issue the last year. In the past 50 years, Honolulu temperatures haven’t changed much – September being one of the hottest months, average temperatures were slightly higher in 1994-1995 and the 1980s higher than this year. Did temperatures in another area, like Ewa Beach, change more? Did they do something to change classroom designs in the past 50 years?

Just another example of government ineptness. Everything the Government puts it’s hand on cost more, takes longer to finish, is less efficient, inferrer quality, poorly planned… but makes liberals feel good. LOL. LOL. LOL.
Ige is nuts. He wants to do things at any cost. He doesn’t care about taxpayers.

Is there anything state government does that goes well and on time and under budget??
Ige made this an issue as part of his campaign and as such it is mostly a lot of hot air.
Wonder which of his Team Ige cronies stands to make boku bucks on the contracts for air conditioning the schools.
If there are any watchdog groups out there, they should be looking into who is getting the contracts. I think you will find some interesting things.

this is stupid. putting ac’s in classrooms, IMO they don’t need ac’s, when i was in school if it was hot you deal with it and get through your school work, we had to tough it out, this generation everything is handed to them so they can learn to be independent cause everything is given to them and they don’t have to work for it. its just a shame these days. we could use that money to fix the roads with are worst in the country and damaging vehicles but noon lets put ac’s in classroom so ids can learn….. stupid
Are they required to have a separate bid for each air conditioner? One Hundred Million Dollars? Clearly things have been distorted from their original form.
