‘Hawaii Five-0’ goes to Comic-Con

The new "Hawaii Five-0" is heading for Comic-Con in San Diego next month. It’s not an obvious venue to promote a cop show — it’s got no space aliens or superpowered superheroes — but the world’s largest comic book convention must be an irresistable place to promote one of CBS’ most anticipated new offerings for the fall. And the show’s got some big stars with sci-fi and fantasy cred: Daniel Dae Kim of "Lost," Grace Park of "Battlestar Galactica" and Alex O’Loughlin of "Moonlight."

It’s hard to imagine Jack Lord’s square-jawed Steve McGarrett appearing at this nerd bacchanal, where people dress up like Wookies and speak Klingon. Actually, we can: "Bunch of freaks," he’d mutter, striding down the street before sliding into his black Mercury Brougham and peeling out into traffic.

Maybe Porky Pig has some ideas

No more "The Other White Meat" ads? Yep, the National Pork Board has had it with that theme, now 23 years old, and is looking ahead to greener pastures, or whatever. The old slogan worked for a while, the board said this past week, but pork sales have been flat for too long, so it’s time for a change. What’s the new slogan? We’ll find out in March 2011.
