Football clinic for UH fans

The University of Hawaii is conducting a football clinic for male fans Tuesday at the school’s athletic complex.

The clinic will take fans through the step-by-step process of crafting a game plan. The UH coaching staff, led by head coach Greg McMackin, and several players also will be available to answer questions and demonstrate football techniques.

The $20 fee includes a "playbook" of information, the instruction sessions and refreshments. Registration is at 6 p.m. at the UH athletic complex, with the clinic beginning at 7 p.m.

For details, call 956-6508, or go to the UH Web site at hawaiiathletics.com.

3 Hawaii players lead U.S. to gold

The U.S. Men’s Junior National Volleyball Team — with three players from Hawaii on the roster — won the NORCECA Men’s Junior (under-21) Continental Championship for the first time, defeating Canada, 25-14, 25-19, 25-16, in yesterday’s gold medal match at the Centre-Sportif de Gatineau in Quebec.

Incoming Kamehameha senior Micah Christenson was named the tournament’s best setter and Taylor Crabb, a recent Punahou graduate headed to Long Beach State, was named best spiker. Also on the team was hitter Josh Taylor, an incoming senior at Punahou.

The U.S. went 5-0 without dropping a set in qualifying for next year’s FIVB Men’s Junior World Championships in Brazil.
