Low scores 14 vs. New Jersey Nets
Former ‘Iolani and Washington State star Derrick Low, a member of the Maccabi Haifa team of the Israeli Premier League, scored 14 points in an NBA exhibition against the New Jersey Nets on Sunday.
Low started and played 37 minutes. He went 5-for-9 from the field, including 4-for-5 from 3-point range. He also had three assists.
Nets rookie Derrick Favors had 14 points and nine rebounds, leading New Jersey to the 108-70 win.
UH doubles teams lose in qualifier
Two Hawaii doubles teams lost in the D’Novo/ITA All-American Championships qualifier yesterday in Tulsa, Okla.
Dennis Lajola and Jeremy Tweedt lost 8-3 to Clifford Marsland and Ashley Watling of host Tulsa.
UH’s freshman team of Jared Spiker and Jonathan Brooklyn dropped an 8-4 match to Will Beck and Patrick Daciek of Virginia Tech.

BYUH, HPU crack regional rankings
The Brigham Young-Hawaii men’s cross country team and Hawaii Pacific women’s team earned spots in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association West Region rankings yesterday.
The Seasiders are ranked ninth, while the Sea Warriors are 10th.
Both teams take part in the UH-Hilo Invitational on Saturday at 8 a.m.
Edman lifts Brigham Young-Hawaii
Britt Edman scored in the 78th minute to lift the Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Dixie State in St. George, Utah, yesterday.
Goalkeeper Megan McCain recorded her fifth shutout of the season with five saves for the Seasiders (6-0-2, 5-0-1 Pacific West Conference), who will play the Red Storm (7-4 and 4-3) again tomorrow.
Red Storm top Seasiders in men’s match
Arnaldo Anaya and Nyle Ortiz scored goals to give Dixie State a 2-0 men’s soccer victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii yesterday in St. George, Utah.
The Red Storm (3-6-1, 3-3-1 PacWest) and the Seasiders 2-6, 1-5) meet again tomorrow.
Jumawan named to USA post
Eiichi Jumawan of Kapolei was named to USA Boxing’s National Junior Olympic Committee.
Jumawan, who fought in more than 160 amateur bouts and is a former AAU national champion, was named to the post by National Junior Olympic chair Debbie Holmes.
Jumawan has worked as a boxing coach, official and administrator in Hawaii.
Sports radio on KHKA, 1500-AM
A new 24-hour sports radio station KHKA (ESPN), 1500-AM, which launched last Friday, will provide broadcasts of Major League Baseball playoff games, college football and Hawaii high school football.
Also featured are ESPN Radio national programming as well as encore performances of sister station KKEA (ESPN), 1420-AM’s "The Bobby Curran Show" and "The Sports Animals" programs.

» Notre Dame sophomore linebacker Manti Te’o (Punahou ’09) finished with 10 tackles in a 31-13 win at Boston College on Saturday. Te’o is tied for second in the country with 64 total tackles, averaging 12.8 per game.
» Colorado senior linebacker B.J. Beatty (Kahuku ’06) forced a Georgia fumble in the final 2 minutes to preserve a 29-27 victory on Saturday. Beatty and Michael Sipili (Damien ’06) each finished with four tackles, including one for loss, in the game.
» Oregon State receiver Aaron Nichols (Kamehameha ’06) caught a 27-yard touchdown pass and finished with three catches for 61 yards in a 31-28 victory over Arizona State on Saturday. Safety Suaesi Tuimaunei (Kahuku ’06) had nine tackles, Brandon Hardin (Kamehameha ’07) was in on four tackles and Feti Unga (Kahuku ’06) finished with three tackles and a sack for the Beavers.
» Mississippi quarterback Jeremiah Masoli (Saint Louis ’06) finished 9-for-17 for 90 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 43 yards and another score in a 42-35 victory over Kentucky on Saturday.
» Idaho junior running back Kama Bailey caught a 30-yard touchdown pass in a 33-13 victory at Western Michigan on Saturday. Junior linebacker Robert Siavii (Leilehua ’08) had a team-high nine tackles, including 1 1/2 tackles for loss and half a sack, and Jojo Dickson (Baldwin ’07) added four tackles.
» Linebacker Sam Fehoko (Farrington ’07) had six tackles and defensive end Scott Smith (Saint Louis ’07) chipped in with five tackles in Texas Tech’s 52-38 loss to Iowa State on Saturday.
» Nevada junior Michael Andrews (Kalaheo ’06) finished with half a sack in a 44-26 victory over UNLV on Saturday.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
» Creighton freshman Colin Honeker (Aiea ’10) finished in 166th place in the Willamette Invitational with a time of 27 minutes, 32 seconds on Saturday. Ian Terayama (Punahou ’10) finished in 172nd place with a time of 27:41, while Willamette freshman Kai Yoshioka (Roosevelt ’10) finished in 28:45, good for 209th place.

» Swarthmore (Pa.) senior Morgan Langley (‘Iolani ’06) scored the team’s only goal in a 1-1 tie against Gettysburg on Saturday. Langley is second in the Centennial Conference in goals (seven) and points (24).
MEN’S GOLF
» San Diego junior Alex Ching (Punahou ’08) won individual medalist honors in the Wolf Pack Classic after the final round was rained out yesterday. Ching finished with a two-day total of 137 (67-70) to win by two shots.
» Oregon State freshman David Fink (‘Iolani ’09) finished with a three-day total of 5-over-par 221 to take 18th place at the Santa Clara Cabo Collegiate on Monday.
» Pacific (Ore.) senior Max Bonk (Hawaii Prep ’07) shot a 3-over 75 to finish in third place in the Willamette Valley Championship on Friday. Willamette freshman Paul Shoji (Punahou ’10) shot an 82 to finish in a tie for sixth place, while Boxers freshman Chasen Bahouth (Maui ’10) finished in a tie for ninth place and Joshua Mau (Maryknoll ’10) finished in 16th place.

» Santa Clara senior Miki Ueoka (Kauai ’07) shot an even-par 72 in the final round of the Firestone Grill Invitational yesterday to finish in a tie for second place. Teammate Tammy Surtees (Hawaii Prep ’08) finished in sixth place with a three-day total of 15-over 231, five shots behind Ueoka. Cal State Northridge senior Ashlee Nagamine (La Pietra ’07) finished in 13th place and Portland senior Lisa Okazaki (Mid-Pacific ’07) finished in a tie for 22nd place.
» Princeton sophomore Anna Jang (Punahou ’09) shot a final round 7-over 79 to finish in a tie for 61st place at 21-over 237 in the Johnnie Imes Invitational yesterday.
» Pacific (Ore.) senior Valerie Kitamori (Waiakea ’07) shot an 8-over 81 to finish in second place at the Willamette Valley Championship on Friday.
