Jia loses in tennis title match

Brigham Young-Hawaii tennis player Yuan Jia made it all the way to the championship match of the USTA/ITA Small College National Tournament this week before losing in the final yesterday.

Alida Muller-Wehlau of Armstrong Atlantic State (Georgia) defeated Jia 6-4, 6-3 in yesterday’s championship match at Mobile, Ala.

NDNU trips Chaminade in soccer

Notre Dame de Namur (California) defeated Chaminade in both men’s and women’s soccer yesterday at the Saint Louis School field.

In the women’s match, Sarah Biser scored in the 37th and 54th minutes in a 2-0 win. Chaminade senior goalkeeper Marissa Minor stopped nine shots.

In the men’s match, NDNU built a 2-0 lead before Chaminade freshman Jose Carranza scored in the 70th minute to close the gap before the Silverswords fell 2-1. Freshman goalkeeper Hayes Sperry stopped 10 shots for Chaminade.

BYUH ties Dominican in men’s match

Viktor Bezhani and Cameron Pettey scored goals for Brigham Young-Hawaii in a 2-2 tie with Dominican (California) in men’s soccer in Laie.

Pedro Guevara and Rafael Garcia scored for the Penguins.

» In the women’s match, Natasha Aiono scored twice and BYUH remained unbeaten at 10-0-2 with a 2-0 win over Dominican.

4 tied for Turtle Bay golf lead

Scotty Yamashita, Brett Komoto, Rudy Cabalar Jr. and Brian Lee all shot even-par 72 yesterday for a share of the lead at the Turtle Bay Amateur golf tournament.

Six more players are tied at 3-over 75 at Turtle Bay’s Arnold Palmer course, including Brandan Kop.
