‘Danno’ leaves a void

A moment of silence, please, for Danno.

James MacArthur, who played right-hand-man Danny Williams to boss Steve McGarrett on the TV classic "Hawaii Five-0," died yesterday at age 72 — and generations of fans are mourning the last surviving member of the original cast.

Viewers of the revamped, current "Five-0" on Monday nights were no doubt looking forward to a cameo in a future episode, which was being discussed. "Book ’em, Danno" took on a new meaning. Now, MacArthur fans will have to be content with seeing him on reruns of the classic show, which ran from 1968 through the ’70s.

In Danno’s honor: Time to cue the theme music. You know the one.

Dressing up for Halloween

Halloween season is crazy-busy at Diamond Head Theatre’s costume shop. Folks are dressing for parties such as tonight’s "Lifestyles of the Rich and Infamous," the charity fundraiser for The Gift Foundation of Hawaii. Shop staffers say Elvis and Hugh Hefner duds are in demand. But pop culture produces new, instant icons as well. Kapahulu’s Costume Closet reports requests this year to dress like Keith Stone, the "always smooth" spokesman on Keystone Light beer commercials.

Should shops be flummoxed by such obscure wishes, technology can help. Customers have been flashing pics of what they want, on their iPhones.
