Man killed in pedestrian accident in Kahaluu
A 28-year-old Kaneohe man was killed in Ahuimanu this morning when a sports utility vehicle veered off Kahekili Highway and struck him as he was walking along the side of the road, police said.
The collision occurred about one-quarter mile south of Okana Road, between Ahuimanu and Ahaolelo roads, about 5:19 a.m.
Both the SUV and the pedestrian were heading south, police investigators said.
The pedestrian suffered severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, a 56-year-old Kaneohe woman, was not injured and stopped.

Neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.
The death was the 52nd on Oahu roads this year, compared to 49 at this date last year.
Police asked that any witnesses to the crash contact the Traffic Division at 529-3499.
