Seasiders knocked out of regional
Junior hitter Losaline Faka’osi put down 11 kills and sophomore hitter Lauren Hagemeyer 10, but it was not enough as the Brigham Young-Hawaii volleyball team saw its season end last night in the NCAA II West Regional first round in San Bernardino, Calif.
The Seasiders (16-8) lost to host and sixth-ranked CSU San Bernardino 25-22, 25-14, 27-25 at Coussoulis Arena. It was the second time in three seasons that BYUH was swept by the Coyotes (26-2) in the first round of the postseason tournament.
Senior libero Nobuko Kotoyori anchored the Seasiders defense with 17 digs and Faka’osi added 10.
"The gals competed well, but San Bernardino is well-balanced, played great defense, a tall block," BYUH coach Wilfred Navalta said. "We stayed with them in Set 1, it got away from us in Set 2 and we did serve set point (in Set 3 24-23) but didn’t make the play we needed.
"I’m proud of our team, we represented the PacWest well, but San Bernardino deserved it. They showed why they were the top seed (in the region)."
