Overloaded computers cause UH student registration delays

An overloaded computer system is causing tens of thousands of University of Hawaii students to experience delays while registering for next semester’s classes.

UH Manoa spokesman Gregg Takayama told KITV that there are 20 percent more students registering for classes than before.

Students also have less time to register than previous years because budget cuts have forced the school to close its campuses for the last two weeks of the year.

These factors are causing the computer system to overload.

Takayama says the university apologizes for the problems.

One UH Manoa senior told KITV he couldn’t get into the registration system for two days, so the Spanish class he was required to take for graduation filled up.
