Dr. Caraway, welcome to governor’s mansion

Yes, Hawaii has a new governor. But less remarked upon is that Hawaii also has a new first lady, the first one in eight years (female governors don’t count).

Nancie Caraway, a political scientist and feminist scholar and author, will no doubt be an earnest and outspoken advocate for her husband’s administration.

What he’ll do when she disagrees with his policies is a matter of delicious, irrepressible speculation.

Timeouts needed for Pearl City punksters

Pearl City schools have been the target of malicious mischief lately. First, Pearl City Elementary was burglarized several weeks ago; a 27-year-old man was arrested just last week for the attempt.

Then two nights ago, a hacker or hackers posted a fake notice on Pearl City High’s website, saying school was to be canceled yesterday due to a water-main break. Fortunately, word got out about the bogus message and no classes were impacted.

Not that it’s a trend or anything — at least we hope not. But bad blips like these only distract from the schools’ functioning. Leave the students alone.
