HPU’s Michnev wins in Challenger

Hawaii Pacific University freshman Peter Michnev of the Czech Republic upset No. 5 seed Alex Satschko of Germany to advance in the qualifying draw of the Honolulu Challenger tennis tournament yesterday.

Michnev lost the first set, but recovered for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory at Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park.

Seven other matches were held yesterday, and the eight winners play in the qualifying-draw semifinals today.

Main-draw matches start tomorrow.

Hawaii sailors win Wenner regatta

Four University of Hawaii teams competed in the two-day Peter Wenner Rainbow Invite sailing regatta that finished yesterday at Keehi Lagoon.

Rainbows 1, a coed team with Tahnee Allman, William Petersen, Zachary Hester and Laura Hughes, scored 93 points and finished three points ahead of runner-up UC Irvine.

Rainbows 4, with Hannah Tuson-Turner, Hanne Nagatani and Madeline Kennedy, placed third overall and was the women’s top finisher.

Rainbows 2, a coed team, took fourth overall.
