The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Maui until 6:45 p.m.

At 3:50 p.m., radar showed stationary downpours over Huelo and Maalaea, the weather service said.

A flood advisory for Oahu expired at 5 p.m.

At 1:58 p.m., radar showed heavy downpours over Makakilo and Kapolei and near Kailua.

Other heavy showers were developing over central Oahu. Rains were drifting slowly toward the south, the weather service said.

Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Ewa Beach, Waikane and Maunawili.

During the 24-hour period ending at 5 p.m., a rain gauge at Schofield recorded 5.76 inches of rain. There were 3.25 inches at the Olomana fire station and 2.99 inches at Makua Ridge.

Authories say people should stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff may also cause hazardous driving conditions.

Heavy showers hit Oahu overnight and into the morning, dumping about 2.5 inches at Makaha Stream, 1.8 inches on Schofield Barracks, and 1.5 inches on Waianae Valley as of 8 a.m., according to the weather service.

Tomorrow’s weather should be a little more sunny and tradewinds are forecast to return. But National

Weather Service forecaster Tom Birchard said remnants of a cold front could bring scattered showers, especially in windward and mauka areas.

He said most of the rain associated with the cold front should be north of the islands tomorrow, but more rain is forecast for Sunday and Monday.

Another weather system west of the islands is expected to bring southerly winds and vogue during the early part of next week.

Birchard said the winds will create voggy, but dry conditions starting Tuesday.
