BYUH drops Academy of Art

Brigham Young-Hawaii held on to a share of first place in the Pacific West Conference men’s basketball standings with a 73-64 win over Academy of Art yesterday in San Francisco.

The Seasiders (15-6, 10-2) are tied for first place with Chaminade. Jet Chang led the way with 23 points and Jake Dastrup hit for 20 points, including six 3-pointers. Dastrup has 14 long-range bombs in his past two games.

William Overton Jr. and Keith Davis scored 16 points apiece for the Urban Knights (5-19, 2-12).

 

Urban Knights deny Seasiders women

Nicole DeRosier scored 29 points and Academy of Art defeated Brigham Young-Hawaii 87-73 yesterday in San Francisco.

Jessica Nolan added 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Urban Knights (9-14, 7-7 Pacific West).

Zori Drew scored 16 points off the bench for the Seasiders (4-17, 3-9). Richelle Rieben added 13 points, and Kristen Hartley (11) and Danna Lynn Hooper (10) also hit double figures in scoring for BYUH.

 

Dixie State trips Hawaii Pacific

Jeremiah Barnes scored 18 points to lead Dixie State past Hawaii Pacific 67-54 in a Pacific West Conference men’s basketball game yesterday in St. George, Utah.

Adrian den Dulk scored 10 points and Jason Jackson had 10 rebounds for the Sea Warriors (16-5, 9-2). The Red Storm improved to 16-5 and 9-2.

 

Red Storm stop Sea Warriors in women’s game

Johnna Brown scored 27 points to lead Dixie State past Hawaii Pacific in women’s basketball yesterday in St. George, Utah.

Breann Hill added 21 points for the Red Storm (20-2, 10-1 Pacific West). Courtney Buster scored 16 points with 12 rebounds to lead the Sea Warriors (16-6, 10-3).

 

UHH edges Grand Canyon

Andrew Gipson scored 16 points and Zach Wilde added 14 to push Hawaii-Hilo to a 69-66 Pacific West Conference men’s basketball victory over Grand Canyon yesterday in Phoenix.

Justin Smith added 13 points for the Vulcans (15-8, 7-5).

Brad Carroll led the way for the Antelopes (13-8, 8-3) with 17 points.

 

Antelopes dump Vulcans in women’s game

Samantha Murphy scored 25 points to lead Grand Canyon to a 77-54 win over Hawaii-Hilo in women’s basketball yesterday in Phoenix.

Maylinn Smith added 16 points for the Antelopes (22-2, 10-1).

Hillary Hurley scored 18 points for the Vulcans (9-12, 5-8).

 

HPU sweeps BYUH in softball

Breanne Patton pitched a four-hitter to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 4-0 victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii in Pacific West Conference softball yesterday in the first game of a doubleheader in Laie.

Maile Kim hit a two-run homer to power the Sea Warriors’ offense.

Caira Pires, Alyssa Aipa and Erin Fujita each had two hits to lead HPU (6-2) in the 7-2 win in the second game. Pomaikai Kalakau drove in two runs. Brooke Perriton led the way in the loss for BYUH (1-7) with two hits.

 

Dominican sinks Chaminade women

Raquel Gomes and Stephanie Carnes scored 15 points to lead Dominican past Chaminade in women’s basketball yesterday.

Kelsey Janusch added 11 points for the Penguins (7-17, 5-9 Pacific West). Jordan Ahakuelo scored 15 points for the Silverswords (1-18, 1-11).
