Vulcans beat Academy of Art

Jonathan James had three hits and four RBIs as Hawaii-Hilo (10-15) scored three runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Academy of Art (4-28) 7-5 yesterday in Oakland.

Chris Pascual got the win, going two innings in relief.

Hilo softball goes 1-2 in tourney

Bryanna Hardy had two hits and an RBI, while Kanani Numata and Nicole Alconcel each scored twice as UH-Hilo (16-10) defeated Northwest Nazarene 7-2 at the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, Calif. Earlier, the Vulcans suffered losses to Sonoma State, 4-2, and San Francisco State, 4-0. Day 2 continues today with two games, beginning against Cal State East Bay and finishing against Humboldt State.

Wahine tennis team defeats Idaho

The University of Hawaii women’s tennis team (6-10, 1-1) picked up its first Western Athletic Conference win yesterday, defeating Idaho 4-2 in Honolulu. The Wahine snapped a three-match losing streak and will play Louisiana Tech tomorrow at 2 p.m.
