Police arrest Hawaii State Hospital escapee
Honolulu police captured an escapee from the Hawaii State Hospital yesterday afternoon.
Police arrested Darryl Prophet, 46, without incident at 3:35 p.m. near Heeia Pier.
Prophet, also known as Darryl Sumlin, was sent to the State Hospital in January 2010 after his indictment in Hilo in December 2009 for assault in the second degree, court records show. He was found not guilty in July 2010 after a team of psychologists and psychiatrists examined his mental fitness to stand trial.
Court records also show Prophet had recently been seeking conditional release or discharge from the hospital.
