The Shaq: A 5’10" kamaaina to be

Named after the famed NBA star who had just joined the Orlando Magic, Shaquille Stokes of New York City has agreed to play for the UH’s Rainbow Warriors.

At 5-foot-10, Stokes is less than half the age of the 7-foot-1 Shaquille O’Neal, who was born across the Hudson in Newark, N.J., 39 years ago and is now a Boston Celtic who sat out last night’s playoff game against the Miami Heat because of a right calf strain.

Stokes averaged 18.4 points a game and was named the New York City Player of the Year this week by the New York Daily News.

"I just want to live up to the name," says Stokes, whose favorite TV show is "Hawaii Five-0."

Sounds like he’s well on his way to being a kamaaina.
