New Mexico State wins WAC

New Mexico State captured its first Western Athletic Conference softball tournament championship with a 5-0 win over host Fresno State yesterday at Bulldog Diamond.

Aggies left fielder Tiare Jennings went 2-for-2 and drove in two runs, Kamehameha graduate Hoku Nohara had a single and walked twice and NMSU earned the WAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The full 64-team field will be announced today.

NMSU pitcher Alex Newman held Fresno State to four hits in a complete-game victory and the Aggies will make the program’s first appearance in the NCAA regionals this week.
