Truck hits motorcycle on Likelike; Oklahoma woman killed

A 25-year-old woman from Oklahoma was killed this morning and her husband was hospitalized in serious condition following a motorcycle-truck accident that closed all Kaneohe-bound lanes of Likelike Highway for three hours.

The Medical Examiner’s office identified the the woman, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, as Kristin Widner of Shawnee, Okla., which is east of Oklahoma City.

She was thrown from a blue 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle when it was struck by a truck driven by a 57-year-old man from Kaneohe. The accident happened at 4:40 a.m. about one-tenth of a mile south of the Wilson Tunnel.

Her husband, J.D. Widner, 27, was the driver of the motorcyle and was in serious condition at the Queen’s Medical Center.

Police arrested the driver of the 1994 brown pickup truck for investigation of negligent homicide and negligent injury.

The Oklahoman in Oklahoma City said J.D. Widner is a softball high school coach.
Police said motorcycle was in front of the pickup truck when the truck hit a guardrail and veered into the motorcycle from behind. The visitors from Oklahoma were thrown from their motorcycle, police said.

It was the 30th traffic fatality this year, compared to 36 at this time last year.

The Kaneohe-bound lanes of the highway were closed at Valley View Drive to the Wilson Tunnel at about 5 a.m. while police investigated the crash. The lanes were reopened at 8:14 a.m.

The same portion of the highway was closed for three hours Thursday morning after a stolen car, traveling on the wrong side of the Likelike, crashed into a police cruiser near Wilson Street while trying to evade police.

The driver of the stolen Lexus remains at large while a passenger in the car was charged with allegedly stealing the vehicle.
