Big Island man arrested in arson investigation of Miloili fire
Hawaii County police arrested a 62-year-old Milolii Village man for allegedly setting fire to a two-story shoreline house in Milolii on Wednesday.
Dogs aided the Fire Department in determining the cause of the fire was suspicious.
A police investigation led to the man’s arrest Friay on suspicion of arson in connection with the $480,000 house fires, police said.
Firefighters had difficulty battling the 10:55 p.m. blaze because there is no county water system in the area.
Fire officials said the fire crews exhausted water in two tankers and two engines and the 10,000 gallons in the property’s catchment system. They then had to travel 10 miles to Ocean View, the nearest location for any hydrants or county water, to fill up with water.
