Rainbows win road opener at San Jose State
Garrett Champion went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Breland Alamdova hit a home run to lead Hawaii to a 6-4 victory over San Jose State in the opener of a three-game series at Municipal Stadium in San Jose, Calif.
Stephen Ventimilia added a two-run single for the Rainbows (22-15, 3-1 Western Athletic Conference), who handed the Spartans (18-15, 3-1) their first loss in league play.
Senior Matt Sisto (7-3) won his third consecutive start, allowing four runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Lawrence Chew set down the final six batters of the game to earn his second save.
Collin Bennett and Kaeo Aliviado each had two of Hawaii’s 10 hits.
Left-hander Johnny Melero (2-5) took the loss for SJSU, giving up all six runs on six hits in four innings.
