Waipahu crash leaves driver in critical condition
A crash near the Waipahu “banana patch” sent a motorist in his 20s to the hospital in critical condition Sunday.
Police said the man was driving westbound on Farrington Highway when he lost control of his vehicle, drove off of the road, hit a tree stump and came to rest in a nearby ditch.
Speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the crash, police said.
Paramedics took the Waipahu man to the Queen’s Medical Center.
The crash, which involved only one vehicle and one occupant, shut down Farrington Highway westbound in the short stretch between Sam’s Club and Waipahu at about 4:20 a.m., police dispatch said. The road reopened at about 6:30 a.m.
