This composite satellite image shows a cold front to the north and northwest of the islands moving southeast toward the main Hawaiian islands.

A weather system moving over the state is causing a shift in the winds and could bring an increased chance of showers through Thursday.

National Weather Service forecasters say a weakening cold front will move over the state starting Tuesday night.

Trade winds should begin strengthening Tuesday as another weather system, which had been blocking the northeast winds, moves away.

The weak cold front should also bring an increased chance of showers through Thursdayday as it moves over the state. Most of the showers will be in windward and mauka areas, but some showers may be blown over the mountains to leeward areas.
