A fallen tree closed all town-bound lanes of the Pali Highway in Kailua Friday afternoon.

Police have reopened the town-bound lanes of Kalanianaole Highway near Kapaa Quarry Road following a six-and-a-half-hour closure due to a fallen tree.

The massive banyan tree, estimated at 40 to 50 feet tall, fell around 12:48 p.m. on Friday, prompting police to divert all town-bound traffic onto Kapaa Quarry Road. Kailua-bound traffic was initially limited to one shoulder lane.

DOT Highways Division maintenance crews spent the afternoon removing the tree and associated debris from the roadway.

The town-bound lanes were finally reopened around 7:30 p.m.
