Big Island man sentenced in 2012 homicide
HILO >> The second man convicted of a killing a Hawaiian Acres man nearly two years ago has been sentenced to life in prison.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports 32-year-old Claude Krause of Kurtistown was sentenced Monday in the strangling death of 44-year-old Dante Peter Gilman at Gilman’s home.
Krause pleaded guilty Oct. 22 to second-degree murder.
Prosecutors say Krause held Gilman at gunpoint while his 21-year-old cousin, Kawena Krause, choked Gilman to death. Kawena Krause on Dec. 2 was also sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Hilo Circuit Judge Glenn Hara told Claude Krause he “traded a life for property” and that made him a “very dangerous person.”
Prosecutors will request a minimum prison term of 30 years.
