A 58-year-old Kapaa man was fatally injured while he was attempting to cut down a tree near his cabin in Kokee, Kauai County said Monday.

He is identified as Adrien “Eddie” Malina. 

At about 9 a.m. Saturday, police said Malina was in a utility boom truck trying to cut down a tree. A second tree that was leaning against the tree he attempted to cut fell onto an unused utility line.

Police said the victim got pinned between the truck bucket and the utility line. 

Bystanders cut the line and helped Malina out of the bucket. 

Kauai police spokeswoman Sarah Blane said he sustained severe injuries to his chest, lungs and ribs. 

Malina was transported to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital, where he died.
