University of Hawaii and ex-basketball coach Gib Arnold have received a 15-day extension in which to reply to the NCAA’s Notice of Allegations, officials told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Replies to the NCAA’s Jan. 30 notice had been due April 30.

The NCAA cited the UH men’s basketball program for seven violations of its rules, all of them either Level I or Level II, the most severe of the four categories.

After responses by involved parties, including coaches and players, the NCAA has 60 days in which to propose penalties.

Monday UH spokesman Dan Miesezahl said, “the university will have a public statement soon regarding the NCAA briefing and hearing schedule, once the deadlines are confirmed.”

UH administrators and counsel have met with new men’s basketball coach Eran Ganot about the possibility of sel-imposing some sanctions in advance of meeting with the NCAA Committee on Infractions. But officials have declined comment on what the school is prepared to go forward with.

Forfeiture of games, reduction in scholarships and practice and recruiting time are among the possible self-imposed sanctions. Earlier UH had said it was considering a post-season ban, but that has reportedly been taken off he table.
