Cosby lawyers want Pittsburgh-area defamation suit dismissed
PITTSBURGH >> Bill Cosby’s attorneys have asked a federal judge to dismiss a defamation lawsuit by a Pittsburgh-area woman.
Renita Hill, of Baldwin, sued in October claiming Cosby drugged and had sex with her several times after they met on a children’s educational TV show in 1983. She says denials by Cosby, his wife and his attorney that Cosby sexually abused women make her out to be a liar.
But Cosby’s attorneys say those statements don’t refer to Hill by name or otherwise specifically — and say even if they did, they are protected speech.
Cosby and his camp have said women who have made similar allegations are engaging in “innuendo” and targeting him for financial gain, among other claims.
Hill’s attorney says the response isn’t surprising and her claims remain “viable.”
