Warriors sweep King in Outrigger Invitational volleyball tournament
Freshman Stijn van Tilburg was impressive in his collegiate debut, putting down 14 kills with no errors, and No. 7 Hawaii opened the 22nd Outrigger Hotels Invitational men’s volleyball tournament with a 25-14, 25-14, 25-14 sweep of King at the Stan Sheriff Center today.
Senior hitter Siki Zarkovic added 13 kills and the Rainbow Warriors outdug the Tornado 36-1, with senior libero Kolby Kanetake finishing with a match-high 18.
Jeff Sprayberry led King with eight kills. The Conference Carolinas member hit .068.
Van Tilburg, a Dutch national, hit .933 with no errors on 15 swings.
In today’s opener, Julian Moses put down 21 kills and No. 8 Lewis survived against Harvard, 25-19, 22-25, 23-25, 25-14, 15-8. Branden Clemens led the Crimson with 14 kills.
Hawaii (1-0) faces Harvard (0-1) in Friday¹s second match. Lewis (1-0) opens Friday’s play against King (0-1) at 4 p.m. The tournament concludes Sunday with Harvard and King meeting at 2 p.m. Hawaii faces Lewis in the 5 p.m. finale.

What an impressive debut by the Dutch freshman. Good job Wade and Co. for landing such a great student athlete. Great effort by all. Did King really only have one dig all night or was that a typo in the article?
