Rainbow Warrior volleyball sweeps Harvard

Freshman opposite Stijn van Tilburg put down 18 kills and No. 7 Hawaii swept Harvard 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 in Friday’s second match of the 22nd Outrigger Resorts Invitational men’s volleyball tournament at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Senior hitter Siki Zarkovic added 12 kills and junior hitter Kupono Fey eight for the Rainbow Warriors, who won their 11th consecutive home match dating back to last season. The victory sets up a true championship match at 5 p.m Sunday between tournament unbeatens Hawaii (2-0) and No. 8 Lewis (2-0).

The Flyers swept King 25-15, 25-18, 25-14 in Friday’s first match. Senior opposite Patrick Lilly put down 12 kills and junior hitter Trevor Weiskircher added 11 kills and two aces for Lewis.

Senior hitter Jeff Sprayberry led King (0-2) with eight kills and five digs.

For Harvard, senior hitter Branden Clemens had a team-high 10 kills.

Sunday’s 2 p.m. match between the Crimson (0-2) and the Tornado (0-2) will determine third place.

Hawaii is going for its seventh Outrigger title, the last coming in 2010.

Lewis’ best finish in five previous appearances was second in 2012.
