State defensive player of year tweets commitment to UH
The University of Hawaii received a big-time commitment today when Kahuku defensive back Keala Santiago announced on Twitter he will stay home for college.
Santiago, who is 5-foot-11 and 187 pounds, was the Honolulu Star-Advertiser defensive player of the year as a senior for the undefeated state champion Red Raiders.
Santiago intercepted seven passes over the final four games of the season and was the quarterback on defense for a Kahuku team that allowed only 4.1 points per game.
He chose Hawaii over offers from Army, Colorado, Navy and UNLV.
Very excited and pumped to announce that I have COMMITTED to UH! ???? #newbeginning #defendpriderock pic.twitter.com/1vOSa8qIev

Great news for Santiago and for UH. I saw Kahuku play several time this past season and this guy is a very solid D1 prospect.
Terrific. The Red Raiders put out great players. So glad we will be able to see him here at UH.
I wonder how Kawehi Johnson is doing? He was one heck of a player with great football instincts, the same as Keala. Kawehi would have received more D1 offers if he had Keala’s size. Congratulations, Keala. Good to see another local playing for the home team.
nine more days. hope it’s solid.
What’s with the question marks???
A little undersized but heck of a lot better pickup (if it happens) than Milton.
With quality coaching at UH he’ll only get better. Great get for the Warriors.
