Halekulani chef Vikram Garg leaves hotel, but will remain in Hawaii
Chef Vikram Garg, who brought some two decades of global experience with him to Hawaii, has stepped down from his position as executive chef at the Halekulani hotel.
Garg said he will continue to work in Hawaii, though he would not say where that will be. His last day was Feb. 19.
Garg, 46, took the helm more than seven years ago, where he oversaw the kitchens of La Mer, Orchids and House Without a Key.
He said he was brought on board to develop the hotel into a food-driven destination and to bring more focus to sourcing food locally, though he and his staff “cooked globally.”
Garg has worked in top fine-dining restaurants in Bombay; New Delhi, Dubai; the Virgin Islands; Bangalore; and Washington, D.C. He is a graduate of the Oberoi School of Hotel Management in New Delhi.

wonder what really happened.
No matter how glorious traveling the world might be… there’s no place like home. I’m surprised he’s not heading back to India. If he saved most of his salary and invested wisely, he could live like a king in India.
I hope this means local boy and Farrington/KCC grad, Robin Abad, who is currently chef de cuisine at Orchids, gets the exec job. He certainly has the talent and skill!
Vikram is one of the best chef’s in Hawaii. Turnover in top management at the hotel over the last couple of years is now complete. Everyone (except the CEO) has left……in some cases twice already. Something must be wrong for sure.
