Hawaii baseball breaks 6-game skid
Kyle Von Ruden tossed 7 2/3 scoreless innings and was helped out by a triple play that fueled Hawaii’s 4-0 win over Chicago State tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.
Alex Fitchett went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple and scored a run for the Rainbow Warriors (7-12), who snapped a six-game losing streak.
Von Ruden (2-1) allowed five hits and no walks with five strikeouts and lasted at least 7 2/3 innings for the fourth consecutive start to earn the win.
Hawaii turned a triple play in the seventh inning. Joe Baier hit a line drive with the bases loaded that was snagged by Johnny Weeks at shortstop. He flipped to second base to double off a runner and Josh Rojas quickly went to third to get Andy Gertonson to end the inning.
Matt LoCoco added two singles and Eric Ramirez snapped an 0-for-13 skid with an RBI double in the fifth inning for UH, which had six hits.
Justin Wyant (1-4) allowed three runs on six hits in six innings to take the loss for the Cougars (5-11).
