No tsunami threat from strong quake off Central America

    A strong quake off the coast of Guatemala this morning did not pose a tsunami threat.

A strong earthquake struck off the coast off Guatemala this morning, but does not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The preliminary magnitude 6.2 quake hit 59 miles south-southwest of Champerico, Guatemala at 4:11 a.m. at a depth of 30.1 miles, according to U.S. Geological Survey.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue any advisories for the deep quake.

No injuries were immediately reported.
