Jimmy Borges died on May 30 after a battle with liver and lung cancer.

Friends and fans of legendary Hawaii jazz vocalist Jimmy Borges will have two chances to say a final goodbye to the entertainer, who died May 30 after succumbing to terminal liver and lung cancer.

A Catholic memorial service will take place at Our Lady of Peace, 1184 Bishop St., on Saturday, with visitation from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and a funeral mass at noon. Parking will be available at Century Square, 1188 Bishop St., as well as surrounding streets. Aloha attire is requested.

At 9 a.m. Sunday, Borges’ ashes will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean fronting the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, 2259 Kalakaua Ave. A celebration of life will follow at the hotel’s Monarch Room from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Borges family asks that guests wear aloha attire and refrain from wearing shorts or slippers; parking will be available at the Waikiki Shopping Plaza and Sheraton Waikiki for $8.

Instead of flowers, donations to the Jimmy Borges Endowed Scholarship at the University of Hawaii at Manoa may be sent to the UH Foundation in care of Malia Peters, P.O. Box 11270, Honolulu 96828-0270; make a donation online at uhfoundation.org/JimmyBorgesEndowedScholarship. Sign an online guest book at ballardfamilymortuaries.com.

Borges, 80, died two days after winning his first four Na Hoku Hanohano Awards and was unable to attend the live telecast to personally accept his awards. His self-titled album won album of the year, male vocalist of the year and jazz album of the year, and Borges was also recognized as favorite entertainer of the year in a public vote.

Life is like a mist, short. Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
