THE DAILY BREEZE VIA AP

Relatives of the home owners sift through belongings on Thursday after a driver of a car plowed into the front of the Los Angeles house where a group of mostly elderly people were holding a bible study and prayer meeting, leaving one person dead and several injured. The vehicle left a gaping hole in the home and was almost entirely inside when it came to a rest late Wednesday.

LOS ANGELES » A woman suspected of crashing a car into a Los Angeles home, killing one person and injuring eight others, has surrendered to police.

Authorities say 34-year-old Rashanda Norman was arrested Thursday evening on suspicion of hit-and-run. She remained jailed Friday, and it isn’t clear if she has an attorney.

Investigators believe Norman was behind the wheel of a Buick Regal that jumped over a curb Wednesday night.

The car plowed into the living room of a home that was hosting a prayer meeting, and the driver ran off.

Elsa Debelen’s husband tells KABC-TV that the 72-year-old woman was killed.
