Kamehameha Highway closed in both directions to replace utility pole
Kamehameha Highway near Kawela on the North Shore will be closed in both directions tonight from 7 p.m. to around midnight.
Honolulu police said the closure near 57-496 Kamehameha Highway is needed to replace a utility pole that was knocked down in a traffic accident before 3 p.m. today. The accident knocked down the pole and electricity to about 940 customers.
Police opened one lane of traffic at about 4:30 p.m. and contraflowed vehicles around the scene.
A spokesman for Hawaiian Electric. Co. said the accident cut power to about 940 customers in the Kuilima area. By about 7:10 p.m., power had been restored to all but 40 customers, according to a tweet from Hawaiian Electric Co.
The pole fell on a truck and the Fire Department was at the scene, said Peter Rosegg, a Hawaiian Electric Co. spokesman.
