Big Isle police search for hit-and-run driver
Big Island police are investigating a hit-and-run in Puna Wednesday night.
At approximately 10 p.m., officers responded to a request for assistance at a convenience store parking lot in Kurtistown. An officer arrived at the scene and observed a four-door sedan strike a man, according to a news release from the Hawaii County Police Department.
Police said the vehicle also struck an officer’s vehicle as it fled the scene. An officer fired two shots at the vehicle, which headed south toward Volcano on Highway 11.
Police later located the sedan the suspect ditched in the Glenwood area.
The victim was transported to Hilo Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries and released.
