Kapolei’s Smolka loses unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night
Kapolei’s Louis Smolka kicked off the televised potion of UFC Fight Night: Kansas City with a unanimous decision loss to Tim Elliot in a flyweight bout today at at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo.
Elliot (15-7-1, 3-5 UFC) won 30-27 on all three judges scorecards to hand Smolka (11-4, 5-4) his third straight loss.
Elliot scored 11 takedowns but struggled to keep Smolka down for much of the fight. An elbow to the right side of Smolka’s face opened up a cut near his eye in the first round.
Elliot, ranked No. 9 in the world at 125 pounds by the UFC, controlled Smolka for 8 minutes, 58 seconds of the fight according to UFC fight metrics.
He landed 87 of 126 total strikes and 37 significant strikes. Smolka, who is ranked No. 12 and held control for 2:17, landed 34 total strikes and 31 significant strikes.
