Stephen Tsai

Seventh-ranked Long Beach State defeated Hawaii, 2-1, today to sweep the three-game baseball series.

The Dirtbags scored two in the first and never looked back to improve to 35-16-1 overall and 18-3 in the Big West. The ’Bows fell to 26-22 and 8-13. The ’Bows finish their regular season with a three-game series against UC Santa Barbara beginning this Thursday at Les Murakami Stadium.

Dave Smith, a sinkerball specialist, held the ’Bows to six hits and a run in eight innings. He induced 12 groundouts.

Adam Fogel’s solo homer in the seventh helped the ’Bows avert their first shutout since the season opener.
