UH basketball draws Miami in DHC
The Hawaii basketball team will open up the 2017 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic against Miami, tournament runner ESPN announced today.
On Dec. 22, it will be the second time the Rainbow Warriors played the Hurricanes of the Atlantic Coast Conference in the DHC first round. Miami won a 2012 matchup 73-58 and went on to the NCAA Tournament later that season.
This March, the Hurricanes were an 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament and lost to Michigan State in the first round. They were 21-12 overall and 10-8 in the ACC, compared to UH’s 14-16 overall and 8-8 in the Big West.
The other DHC first-round matchups are Middle Tennessee vs. Princeton, Akron vs. USC, and Davidson vs. New Mexico State.
UH will play either former WAC foe NMSU or Davidson on the second day of the tournament. Other games on the schedule previously reported are Nevada on Nov. 24 and at Utah on Dec. 2.
