Wahine blown out on the road in opener

Sophomore guard Julissa Tago scored a career-high 28 points but got little support as the Hawaii women’s basketball team was blown out by Portland 76-47 in today’s season opener for both teams in Portland, Ore.

Junior forward Julie Spencer had 15 points to lead six Pilots in double-figure scoring at the Chiles Center. Portland outrebounded Hawaii 41-26, with Spencer finishing with a game-high 10.

Senior guard Sarah Toeaina added seven points, all in the second half, and a team-high six rebounds for the Wahine (0-1). Tago hit four of Hawaii’s six 3-pointers.

The Wahine finish their two-game road trip at Seattle University on Sunday at 11 a.m.
