A 54-year-old man died tonight after he was struck by an SUV on the H-1 freeway in Pearl City.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the man darted onto the freeway and was struck by the SUV, which was traveling westbound in the far right lane.

The man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 46-year-old male driver of the SUV was not injured.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the incident.

Drugs may have been a factor on the part of the pedestrian, police said.

Three westbound lanes were closed for three hours while an investigation was conducted.

This was the 42nd traffic-related fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 51 at the same time last year.
