Wind advisory in effect for state until Sunday

A wind advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday for the state.

The National Weather Service reports northeast winds at 20 to 35 mph, with gusts over 50 mph.

Winds will be strongest over ridge tops and gaps over Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Lanai, as well as over the Kohala mountain range on the Big Island. The strong winds are not expected in the Hilo area.

Motorists should use extra caution, as strong winds can knock down tree branches and cause power outages.
