Kemper wins Sunset Open


    Billy Kemper outlasted three other Hawaii surfers to win the Sunset Open.

Billy Kemper won today’s Sunset Open in Haleiwa in an all-Hawaii final.

Ian Gentil and Ian Walsh, both of Maui, finished second and third while Barron Mamiya placed fourth. Kemper totaled a score 15.94 in the final to edge Gentil’s 15.70 at Sunset Beach. Walsh finished with 13.64 and Mamiya totaled 7.93.

The event was the first on the WSL Hawaii/Tahiti Nui Region season. Next up is the Volcom Pipe Pro at Banzai Pipleine which has a holding window of Jan. 29 to Feb. 10.
