Rainbow Wahine fall in OT at LBSU

The Hawaii women’s basketball team was unable to sweep its two-game road trip, as the Rainbow Wahine fell 85-80 in overtime at Long Beach State today.

UH (11-16, 4-10 Big West) dropped into a seventh-place tie with LBSU (6-22, 4-10), but is still a game ahead of last-place Cal State Fullerton. The Wahine will have to take care of business in two home games next week to guarantee themselves a spot in the Big West tournament.

Senior guard Sarah Toeaina had a big game of 24 points and a career-best 16 rebounds in the loss. She shot 14-for-19 from the free-throw line but committed seven turnovers, including an offensive foul on a screen in the waning moments of the extra period.

Lahni Salanoa added 16 points and 11 rebounds and freshman post Mackenzie Clinch Hoycard had her best game to date — nine points and six rebounds.

Five LBSU players scored in double figures, led by Shanaija Davison’s 22 points.
